Our Student Spotlights celebrate incredible young musicians in our community. These students have been nominated by their teachers and have shown dedication, talent, or made great progress in their musical journey. This term's Student Spotlight is on Jack Carr:

About Jack:

Hello, my name is Jack Carr. I’m 11 years old, and I am learning to play electric guitar. I first became interested in playing an instrument when we were given ukulele lessons at school for a term when I was six. Whilst most of my classmates did not continue I started to have private lessons to continue to learn. Unfortunately these were online due to lockdown, so it was very frustrating at times! When I was eight I decided to start learning electric guitar instead, although my Severn Arts teacher, Hannah Fieldhouse, recommended starting with an acoustic guitar first. I did this for two years, before my dad took me on an exciting trip to Guitar Guitar in Birmingham to buy my first electric guitar. I love the sound it makes, and feel happy when I play something well. I have just learned how to play ‘Highway to Hell’ by AC/DC, which makes me proud (along with passing my first two Rockschool exams with distinction!)

My favourite guitarists are Brian May and Angus Young, and I would love to be part of a rock band in a couple of years time when I become a teenager.

Jack’s teacher Hannah is very impressed with Jack's progress: “Jack has been working hard on his guitar skills, from video lessons during Covid to electric guitar in school. He is paving the way with his shred skills by learning the likes of ACDC and Metallica. Well done Jack!”
