News and stories News Full programme announced for Bridges of Light We have now announced the full programme for the new festival taking place in Worcester city centre on 29 and 30 October from 6 – 9pm. Across the two days you are invited to share in the festival’s community stories, visit light installations, take part in interactive light artworks, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy Bridges of Light with family and friends. From 6pm-9pm on both nights, visitors will be able to enjoy: Shadow Dance by Impossible Art Become a performer on Cathedral Square with floodlights magnifying your multi-coloured silhouette to the size of a building as Shadow Dance take ‘dancing in the streets’ to a whole new level. Cygnet Song by Illuminos See Worcester's main bridge across the Severn transformed into a stunning light artwork. This artwork was commissioned by Bridges of Light with funding from Public Health, Worcestershire County Council. Stitching Light আল ো দিল়ে গোাঁ থো by Emergency Exit Arts View the three-meter-high colourful painted textile panels hand stitched with light thread outside Henry Sandon Hall. The panels highlight the journeys of Bangladeshi women who have migrated to the UK. This installation has been created in partnership with Worcester Mela. Imagining a Bright Future by Kim Piffy Journey through a glowing landscape of UV footprints, glowing fish, origami cranes, and a surreal infinity mirror and leave your mark by sharing a message of hope for the future. This immersive light installation is inside Henry Sandon Hall. Bird Songs by Lou Chapelle Wander in the Old Palace Gardens to discover beautiful illuminated holographic birds. Accompanied by a soundscape of human voices and birdsong, the work is inspired by our desire to build and cross bridges, both physical and metaphorical. Catch Me Now by Tine Bech Studios Join a joyful game of chase and catch outside The Hive. This is an interactive artwork which responds to participants who step into the light of a roaming spotlight. Macroscopic by Chris Plant See the beauty and wonder of objects, often overlooked until they are magnified in the installation on the High Street. Digital Graffiti by Light Art Creatives Take part in the digital graffiti artwork creation on the historic Guildhall. Digital graffiti uses a wireless spray can system that allows you to digitally paint your artwork onto the walls of a building. From doodles to masterpieces, what will you create? Stars Come out at Night by Stellar Creates Step into a temporary universe of stars in St Helen’s Church. This striking installation is a large, slowly revolving artwork which captures the beauty and wonder of the night sky, bringing a glimmer of starlight right down to earth. The work is accompanied by a bespoke atmospheric soundtrack created by local composer Daniel Soley. The programme also includes two light trails. Visitors are invited to follow the trails across the city centre to find and discover a series of harmonic portals by Chris Plant and iridescent cubes by Catt Standen, Creative lead of Worcester BID. Trail maps will be available to download here. Make sure you also look out for the Giant Arctic Fox Puppet at Bridges of Light. Inspired by the legend of the arctic fox creating the Northern lights, this puppet will be in the city centre on both nights of the festival, flying over crowds and sending sparks into the night sky. Bridges of Light is a free, non-ticketed event and suitable for all ages. For more information about the festival and to download a map, visit here. Printed maps and programmes will be available from Worcester Tourist Information Centre and The Hive from Tuesday 21 October. Bridges of Light is presented by Severn Arts and part of the Local Voices, Creative Choices programme. Manage Cookie Preferences
