What we offer Arts and culture Projects with children and young people The Forge: Malvern Cube Outdoor Mural In March 2024, 5 young people at Malvern Cube were invited to design and create an outdoor mural that represents the ethos of their community centre. With support from artist Mark Riley from Creative States, participants worked together to respond to the brief and produced a piece of art that is now displayed on one of the outer walls of the building. The young people began by reading Malvern Cube’s mission statement and picking out three key words; Malvern Cube aims to be ‘ethical’, ‘accessible’ and ‘community-centred’. Next, they chose their materials and decided on wood and clay to represent sustainability. Each member of the group created a design, which they produced on individual panels. When displayed together the panels represent connection, creativity and how Malvern Cube supports everyone in the community to thrive. The finished mural was included in the 2024 Young Voices New Visions exhibition at Worcester Cathedral. It was then returned to Malvern Cube for public display in July 2024. Malvern Cube hosted an unveiling ceremony with members of the Malvern District Council, local artists, and the families of the young participants who were invited to cut the ribbon and celebrate their remarkable achievement. Nicola Turrell, Centre Manager of Malvern Cube, expressed the significance of this new mural: “This is a really important piece of artwork to us at The Cube, not just because it will be seen by the hundreds of visitors we have every week, but because it represents our values as a community. We set this group of young people a brief to design something that shows what we believe in – community, connection, and bringing people together – and that’s exactly what they have done. We’re really proud to have this on display on our building.” Manage Cookie Preferences
